Upon arrival at Aswan Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your selected Nile cruise ship for check-in. After settling in and refreshing yourself, you’ll have the opportunity to join an afternoon tour of the magnificent Philae Temple, a sacred site that once served as a major center of worship dedicated to the goddess Isis, remaining a significant pilgrimage destination well into the Christian era. According to ancient mythology, from Philae Island, Isis watched over the nearby sacred island of Biga, believed to be one of the burial sites of her husband Osiris. After the construction of the Aswan High Dam, the temples on Philae Island were partially submerged, and visitors once had to use rowboats to view them. Thanks to remarkable conservation efforts, the entire complex was relocated to a nearby island and fully restored to its former glory. After breakfast at the hotel, your Egyptologist guide will accompany you on a visit to the impressive Giza Pyramids and Sphinx, built over 4,600 years ago. Nearby stands the Great Sphinx, a mythical creature with a lion’s body and a pharaoh’s face, most likely King Khafra, guarding the plateau. The Sphinx and the pyramids are part of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Next, travel to Saqqara, located about 25 km south of Cairo. Here, you will visit the Step Pyramid of Pharaoh Djoser, built over 4,700 years ago and considered the first pyramid ever constructed in Egypt. The final stop of the day is Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. After the tour, enjoy dinner and return to the hotel for overnight accommodation.
