After breakfast, we depart for Kairouan, a purely Arab city full of remarkable examples of the finest Islamic architecture in Tunisia: the Great Mosque of OKBA, the oldest place of worship in North Africa, awaits to amaze you. After the optional lunch, we head towards central Tunisia and the fantastic Roman site of Sbeitla. This site is one of the most important places in Tunisia! We can still see the remains of the public fountain and the huge bath complex. Three temples, several basilicas, Byzantine forts, olive presses, private houses, and very straight streets following the usual Roman grid system are monuments not to be missed in this fascinating place. In the evening, we will arrive in Tozeur, where we will go to the hotel for dinner and relaxation.

This morning, after breakfast, we will drive to Gafsa, the capital of southern Tunisia. We will set off in 4×4 vehicles to explore the mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides. Located in the rugged outcrops of the Atlas Mountains, not far from the Algerian border, these oases date back to the Roman era, when they served as military outposts controlling caravan trade. In Chebika, we take a walk to see the Berber village, waterfalls, and spring, then continue to the picturesque village of Tamerza, with its spectacular sights made famous in the film ‘The English Patient’. We then head towards Tozeur, famous for its oases that stretch over approximately ten square kilometers, planted with around 400,000 palm trees and fed by 100 springs. We will learn about date harvesting, have the opportunity to taste them, and those who wish can optionally take a horseback ride through the oasis. In the afternoon, there is another optional 4×4 adventure through the sand dunes for an adventure tour where we visit “Ong Jemal” and the desert location where some scenes of Star Wars and the Lars Farm were filmed. Optional lunch. In the evening, we visit the Dar Chraiet Museum, which will tell us the history of Tunisia through its exhibits. We return to the hotel for dinner and rest.

After breakfast, we set off for the Day Adventure. We cross Chott el Jerid, the Great Salt Lake, the barrier between the Sahara and the fertile north. If we are lucky, we might see some mirages on the horizon and take spectacular photos. We arrive in Douz, also called the “Gateway to the Sahara.” You can see the daily life of the Bedouins and their attachment to the land and nature. We will walk through the local Bedouin market, visit craftsmen’s shops, where you will discover the secrets of authentic desert slippers, handmade. Those who wish, optionally, can experience the mirage of the sand dunes on camels. After lunch, we delve into the Sahara desert to the oases of Ksar Ghilaine. In the afternoon, optionally, we take a desert tour with ATVs (quads) to visit the Roman fortress and admire the sunset for about 45 minutes. We then head to Matmata, where we check into the hotel and have dinner. During the day, we can optionally stop for lunch.

After breakfast, we explore the distinguished architecture of the local Berber villages in Chenini, built on hills to protect themselves from any possible invader of the times. For 1 hour, you will discover the fascinating troglodyte dwellings, built into the rock. Many Berber tribes, to avoid carrying their belongings every time they had to move, built the famous Ksour found mainly in that area. Therefore, we cannot leave without visiting one of them, especially since the one we selected is the best and best preserved (a huge ancient Berber granary). We continue to Tataouine – the name Tataouine became famous when George Lucas, who filmed the original Star Wars in various locations in Tunisia (for example, the Lars Homestead, filmed at Hotel Sidi Driss in Matmata), named Luke Skywalker’s fictional home planet Tatooine. We then head to the island of DJERBA, where we check in at a beach resort. Dinner and relaxation. Optional lunch during the day.

A relaxing tour follows where we discover the beauty of this city, with its unique architecture that has inspired many painters and artists over the years.
